Burnaby Mountain PAC Meeting October 3 2016
Called to order at 7:20 pm.
Minutes from June 2016 and September 2016 were presented for review and will be presented for approval at the next meeting, along with the October minutes. They will be posted on the Burnaby Mountain PAC website.
Correspondence was received from some graduates of the 2015/16 year thanking us for the scholarships they received from PAC. There were 12 scholarships handed out at the end of the 2015/2016 school year
Treasurer’s Report – The budget for 2016/17 was reviewed and a motion was presented to accept the budget as presented. This motion passed.
Student Council president Jeffrey reported on the success of the first month of school and upcoming activities in October. These activities can be found on the school’s website. There are dances being planned. Their success depends upon the number of tickets sold, etc. There will be themed activities the week before Halloween.
Student Clubs – There are no club requests at this time. School clubs and their sponsor teachers need to be aware of the process for requesting money from PAC
DPAC – PAC information courses (occurring this month) and information about them are on the DPAC website. They include PAC 101 and Treasurer 101. They are held at Burnaby Central.
Parent Education – October 13, 2016, there is a presentation on online safety by The White Hatter (Darren Laur) for students during the school day and parents in the evening.
Dr Dhung X. Vo has been booked for a workshop on April 25th,2017 on The Mindful Teen: Promoting mindfulness and social-emotional learning. This will be set up on Eventbrite
Discussion about options for other presentations for parents is ongoing and might include scholarships for graduating students
Presentation by Wendell Williams – Safe School Specialist
Wendell described how he uses his position to support students. Students and parents can contact Wendell with any concerns or questions they might have. Students have his cell phone number. Wendell makes every effort to keep confidential what students confide in him unless he feels that doing so would jeopardize the safety of students or staff.
He works in conjunction with the rest of the student support services team.

Ms. Kristmanson stated how well the first month of school has gone. Student class schedules have been ironed out quite well. Any vacant teacher positions have been filled. All activities during the month of September to welcome students back have been successful and enjoyed by those who participated.
