Burnaby Mountain Secondary PAC Meeting February 5th, 2018
Called to order at 7:20 pm.
Minutes of December 2017 PAC Meeting were approved and adopted.
Student Council Update – recent successful events were discussed and upcoming events were promoted, including the events for grad week, which include bowling, dodge ball, and a pancake breakfast put on by the teachers for the grads before school.
Treasurer’s Report – Reports for December and January were reviewed and adopted. There was little activity for the month of January.
School club request – Ms Rudolph came to present a request for money to assist with equipment being used for the upcoming drama production. Some of the circumstances have changed, so the request will be updated and resubmitted to the PAC.
Dry Grad – Parent volunteers are needed from Grade 11 parents for the Dry Grad event including chaperoning on the buses from the Fairmont to Science World, during the dry grad event at Science World, and on the buses back to Burnaby Mountain. Parents will be needed to transport backpacks from the school to Science World. Parents from Grade 12 are needed to help with decorations at Science World and fundraising events. Buses have been booked and Science World has been booked for the venue.
DPAC – There is no report. Anyone interested in DPAC items can check out their website for their last meeting minutes.
Presentation – by Jackie Ellis, on what anxiety resources are in place at Burnaby Mountain Secondary. All counsellors at the school have their masters in counselling. This was a very interesting presentation and Jackie stated that she would post her power point on the school website.
Principal’s Report – The Open House was huge success. Lots of Grade 7 parents and about 100 grade 8-11 parents. An enrolment meeting is on February 6th and the enrolment is looking fairly stable. Grad week is from February 5th to 9th. Lots of fun activities have been planned and set up for the grade 12s. Monday February 12th is Family Day and February 16th is Burnaby School Districts Pro-D day. Students will have a three day week. Term two of collaboration time started the first week of February and is going well. Pink Shirt Day is February 28th. Leadership and SOGI clubs are planning activities for this day. Course selection assemblies are happening between February 5-9th. Course selection opens on February 6th at 3:30 pm and closes Friday March 2nd. Numeracy assessments are coming in June. There will be an information letter regarding vaping sent to parents in the near future. Presentations will be occurring in the PE 8 and PE 9 classes.
